Due to the show’s massive success, Chumlee started his own merchandise company, which sells novelty items and t-shirts that he designs himself. Initially, the show was going to be called Pawning History, but Leftfield suggested Pawn Stars would be more appealing and easy to remember. Montgomery and Gaines originally pitched the show, they were focused on the store being open 24/7, enabling people to pawn their possessions at any time. Gold & Silver Pawn Shop had been the subject of a documentary on PBS in 2001, and shortly before Chumlee started working there, was featured on Insomniac with Dave Attell, the Comedy Central show.
